.DISCUSSION...
Issued at 348 PM CDT Sat Jun 7 2025
Scattered cumulus persists over the eastern half of the area,
but this will clear out late this evening into tonight. Light
and variable winds continue through the evening, but the arrival
of a cold front will bring increasing northerly winds late
tonight into Sunday morning. Scattered rain showers are also
expected to develop along and behind this front as a deep upper
low pushes southeastward into the northern Plains. There is
enough instability that a few rumbles of thunder are possible,
but severe weather is not expected.
This activity may continue through midday on Sunday, although
near-term CAMs show most of the showers remaining north of I-80,
with precip amounts generally only in the 0.05-0.15" range...at
best. Winds on Sunday remain out of the north with gusts over
25 MPH at times. Lingering cloud cover, especially in the north,
will limit temperatures to the low to mid 70 in northern parts
of the area. Portions of Kansas may once again approach 80
degrees. There is a low (<20%) chance for a few thunderstorms to
redevelop Sunday afternoon over southern parts of the area, but
the cold front should be far enough south that the primary area
of concern will be southern and southeast KS.
Monday through Wednesday will feature dry and warming
conditions as ridge builds over the central CONUS. By Wednesday,
the NBM shows a 40-70% chance to exceed 90 degrees across much
of the area.
Wednesday through the end of the week, a series of shortwaves
will move through the upper ridge, bringing periodic chances for
thunderstorms to the area. Temperatures are generally expected
to reach the 80s each day, with the NBM once again favoring
temperatures to approach/exceed 90 degrees next weekend.
